With character design by Royalties’ co-founder, Sam Fout, and shared concept development, we revealed the iToons iPod dock in 2006 under our production alias, Moon Toad Productions. Featuring characters from Sam’s popular Project: Neptoon series, the iToon dock was rendered in 3D and output in perfect scale in two different rapid prototyping materials.
Rapid prototyping (a.k.a. 3D printing) offers an effective alternative to traditional sculpture, often resulting in a durable prototype suitable for manufacturing. With character design by Royalties’ co-founder, Sam Fout, 800lb. Gorilla is another merchandising concept we developed in 2007. Working with Diamond Comics and a sculpting partner, the line garnered considerable interest at the 2007 International ToyFair in New York. Though it is yet to be released as a full-scale merchandise line, 800lb. Gorilla remains at Royalties among a respectable list of optional properties.

Bringing 2-dimensional illustrations to life in 3D is a deeply satisfying experience. Though not all projects ultimately become full-scale production items, it’s generally a good idea to test run potential merchandise with prototypes. Over the past few years, Royalties has had the good fortune of developing a few sculpts with Peltz Productions. An amazing sculptor working within the animation industry, Jason Peltz gave new life to several of Sam’s character concepts. Check out the images below for samples from this unique collaboration.

Here’s a look at the vinyl figures Sam designed in 2006. Based on the characters from his popular Project: Neptoon comic series, these toys were co-produced and distributed worldwide by PLAY Imaginative.
With six unique sculpts, 1000+ units of each figure, original packaging and a ton of marketing, these vinyl figures kept us busy for quite awhile. Here’s a look at a project we did a few years ago. We created some 3D renders of the characters from one of our signature intellectual properties, “Project: Neptoon,” as part of a toy series visualization. (Along with the photos of the renders below are samples of the ortho drawings the renders were based on.) The 3D mock-ups were then included on large-format 2D prints in our presentations at the New York Int’l Toy Fair and the Int’l Licensing Fair.
While this particular series has yet to be developed in actual toy form, several other characters from the series have successfully emerged as full-scale production vinyl figures. This is a classic project, but still one of our favorites here at Royalties Media. In 2006, we produced a skateboard deck along with the merchandising program for one of our signature intellectual properties, “Project: Neptoon.” Designed and produced by company founders Sam Fout and Dave Davidson, the “Chimp Pansy” deck was proudly built entirely in the USA in top quality maple in an exclusive limited edition of 50 decks. Rounding out the project, each deck was individually shrink-wrapped with an assortment of “Project: Neptoon” vinyl decals and postcards.
Skateboarding remains an important part of life here at Royalties Media, and we’re proud of our resources on both the East and West Coasts. To reach us for more information or help with your next project, please call (802)598-3193 or email dave[at]royaltiesmediainc[dot]com.
